Common Name: Iresin, Iresine herbstii
Iresin ( Iresine herbstii ) is a bushy perennial native to Brazil, with decorative foliage. It belongs to the Amaranthaceae family and can reach almost 70 cm in height if the conditions of heat and humidity are suitable for it. The plant produces red stems with beautiful purple leaves with visible veins , cordate or oblong depending on the variety. Many cultivars have appeared on the market, with a more spread out, more creeping habit or with variegated foliage of pink, green, yellow or white . The stems of small, very light creamy white flowers that appear towards the end of summer are of no great interest.
